natural running by Danny Abshire (co-founder of Newton Running and their famous natural running shoes) is a MUST READ for anyone who wishes to truly understand the mechanics of proper running form. This book delves into the technical aspects of biomechanics without the reader needing a Ph.D. in engineering to understand them. It also provides some great exercises to help you get you on track to a natural running form. This one is our favorite!
The book that started the barefoot running craze, Born to Run, by Christopher McDougall is a fantastic story with a great cast of real life characters. While we don’t feel that everyone should aspire to barefoot running (or even running in Vibram FFs), this book is a fun read that gives insights into a culture with phenomenal natural running abilities and takes people on a journey as the author attempts to answer the question “Why does my foot hurt?”
Written by Joe Puleo, an experienced running coach, and Dr. Patrick Milroy, the medical advisor for Runners World magazine, Running Anatomy follows in the footstep of other great books published by Human Kinetics.  A great, straight-forward anatomy text to help runners of all levels understand the fascinating machine we live in.  The book begins with a basic running physiology lesson and an explanation of each phase of the running cycle and then progresses to an in-depth look at the muscles of our body and how they assist us in our run.  Each muscle group is highlighted by color illustrations with examples of strength exercises that target each muscle group and an explanation of when those muscles function during the running cycle.  Additional chapters cover running shoe anatomy and whole body conditioning.
